About the Ontario Report Card Generator
Built to align with the Growing Success policy document and Ontario Curriculum Standards.
1. Our Philosophy
Writing report cards is one of the most time-consuming tasks for Ontario educators. The challenge is not knowing the student—it is synthesizing months of observation into concise, professional language that fits within character limits while meeting Ministry standards.
This tool is designed to act as a drafting assistant. It takes your raw observations (the "what") and formats them into the professional language (the "how") required for the Ontario Provincial Report Card.
2. Alignment with "Growing Success"
In 2010, the Ontario Ministry of Education published Growing Success: Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting in Ontario Schools. This document dictates how we assess and report on student achievement.
Our AI model has been tuned to follow the three core components of a comment as outlined in best practices derived from this document:
- Asset-Based Language: We focus on what the student can do (Strengths), rather than defining them solely by deficits.
- Qualifiers & The Achievement Chart: The tool automatically applies the correct qualifiers (e.g., "with limited effectiveness," "with considerable effectiveness") to align comments with the Level 1–4 achievement chart.
- Actionable Next Steps: We prioritize providing clear, specific feedback that describes exactly what the student needs to do to improve, as required for Assessment for Learning.
3. A Note on Professional Judgment
While this tool uses advanced AI to generate text, it does not replace the teacher's professional judgment. As stated in Growing Success, "Teachers will use their professional judgment... to determine the final grade."
We encourage all educators to review, edit, and personalize every comment generated to ensure it accurately reflects the student's unique learning journey.
